Kirby Larson and Mary Nethery
The collaboration between Kirby Larson and Mary Nethery has produced two Show Me Readers Award-winning titles. The first, Two Bobbies, A True Story of Hurricane Katrina, Friendship and Survival, received more than 21,000 votes from Missouri students to win MASL’s 2010-2011 Show Me Readers Award. The second, Nubs: the True Story of a Mutt, a Marine, & a Miracle, received more than 33,000 votes from Missouri students to win MASL's 2011-2012 Show Me Readers Award.
In addition to their Show Me Readers Awards, the authors have won numerous others, including a Newbery Honor and the Christopher Award.
James Dashner is the author of the New York Times, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, Publishers’s Weekly and Indiebound Bestseller Maze Runner series. The first book in the trilogy, The Maze Runner, received MASL's 2011-2012 Truman Readers Award with more than 1,300 votes. A former accountant with a lifelong love of reading, Dashner has penned titles which have received numerous other state book awards and are sold in dozens of countries around the world. He has penned 3 series beyond the Maze Runner series: The Infinity Ring series, the The 13th Reality series, and The Jimmy Fincher series.
Jennifer Brown is a Missouri writer who never wanted to be a writer, even though she was always writing. Her debut novel HATE LIST received more than 550 votes to win MASL's 2011-2012 Gateway Readers Award. HATE LIST has received numerous state awards and organizational awards, and was also selected to represent the state of Missouri in the 2012 National Book Festival in Washington, D.C. Her second novel, BITTER END, is receiving rave reviews as well and has been listed on the YALSA 2012 Best Fiction for Young Adults list and is also a 2012 Taysha's high school reading list pick.
