2. It's a bird!  It's a plane!  No, it's a school librarian!

We all know the LMS can't leap tall buildings in a single bound and can only
stop speeding bullets of inappropriate information when the filter is working.
So, what is the role of an LMS in 21st Century Schools?  This session will
examine the expectations that accompany the title and will explore changes
necessary in the current economy.  Participants will leave with an action
plan for examining the role they play in their personal learning community.

Presented by Cathie Loesing, eMINTS National Center

3. Student Records and Privacy (presenters will connect to presentation via
the internet)

This session will address who has access to a student's checkout records
and how the confidentiality of student records are to be handled. Information
on labeling or shelving books according to Lexile or Accelerated Reader
levels; how to handle a book challenge; and how ALA's Office of Intellectual
Freedom can help ALA members will also be discussed.

1. Think, Create, Share, Grow: Promoting the Learning 4 Life Initiative

ALA's Emerging Leaders program included a variety of projects from
librarians of all backgrounds, including one school library-focused project
sponsored by AASL.  This project promoted the Learning 4 Life initiative
to teach 21st Century information literacy skills to K-12students.  Original
media projects were created from a survey of school librarians across the
nation in order to clarify and promote information literacy instruction.  This
workshop will be very helpful to attendees who are not sure how to teach
information literacy skills or need a set of standards to follow.

Presented by Melissa Corey, Benton High School
