Subject: 2012: Chapter 8 - The party

Yep, he's got a party going on in his classroom.... "Poetry break!!"  These random genre explosions in the middle of the lesson sound like fun.... but I'm a bit skeptical about their effectiveness when they disrupt the rhythm and flow of the lesson at hand.  If anyone has tried this with success (or not), please share!

I do love his Picture Book of the Month and First Read Club ideas.  I'm contemplating a First Read Club for next year because boy, do my high schoolers love stickers!

If you haven't yet read "From the Trenches" on pages 128-129, it's a hoot!

I especially like the First Read Club and would like to use it with fiction and nonfiction titles. Read Arounds I think would work well with 6th grade students because 6th grade year is their first year to use a middle school library. There are many authors they are not familiar with and this would be a great way to meet them. We have a poetry break planned for this next Monday for our 6th graders. April is poetry month!
