Annually, MASL offers Spring Conference attendees the opportunity to attend several Advance Targeted Workshops, held prior to the start of regular conference workshops on the Sunday kicking off the conference.  These workshops last from 9:00am-12:00pm and offer participants a more immersed, personal learning experience.  Register for a 2014 Advance Targeted Workshop today!  One hour of credit is available through Lindenwood University for attending Advance Targeted Workshops I and II.

Workshop I: Rigorous Learning with Emerging Technology (Kristin Fontichiaro)
The Web is a dizzying candy store of digital expression and creation. Free Web tools have the power to motivate and energize our students' learning. As we move our instructional practices into this fast-paced, digital playground that allows for unprecedented, multimodal information exchange, how do we move beyond novelty to keep those activities rigorous and thoughtful? How do we craft a common foundation with colleagues for what defines "good work"? I'll propose a model and vocabulary for discussing student work that can help educators and librarians promote rigorous instructional design in a high-tech environment.

Workshop II: How Writing Notebooks Anchor Workshop (Penny Kittle)
A notebook filled with quick writing and collecting can drive thinking in a writing workshop. We will quick write together and practice rereading techniques that help students find the heart of their work. We'll practice small steps in revision and how to use our raw thinking as a model for writers.  Come to sketch, write, and share.

Workshop III: Downtown St. Louis Walking Tour
Enjoy a narrated city tour to include the Arch, the re-enactment of the Dred Scott Case at the Old Courthouse with National Park Rangers moderating, a walk through the modern art sculpture park CityGarden,
a popular local book store, Kiener Plaza, and ending at a place for the group to enjoy lunch on its own. (Attendees will purchase lunch on their own; please bring funds for this if you plan on participating in this tour.)
