Epsilon Beta State Library Club Convention 2013

Epsilon Beta State Library Club would like to invite all existing library clubs, students and/or sponsors interested in starting a library club, student library helpers, and librarians to our state convention that will be held March 24-25, 2013 in Springfield, Missouri.

The convention will be held at Drury Inn in Springfield, MO. Call the hotel for reservations at 417-520-8800 and ask for Brennan Purvis. Make sure you tell him you are with the Epsilon Beta State Library Club Convention. We can check in by 2:00. Convention starts at 3:00 p.m. Rooms are $62.95, and you may allow up to 4 students per room. February 25 is the date by which you must make your hotel reservations. You must also include a rooming list for the hotel. Bring your tax exempt letter and your check made out to LaQuita Inn.

Jeans may be worn for the activities on Sunday evening. If you have local or state Epsilon Beta shirts – that would be nice attire for Sunday. On Monday jeans are not acceptable. Everyone should dress up for the university tour and the business meeting. Wear comfortable shoes, and bring warm coats.

  • Awards are given each year. The $150 scholarship is available for a senior attending the convention who has been a member of Epsilon Beta State Library Club for at least two school years. This application, included in this packet of information, should be filled out and returned with the club’s registration.
  • If your group has a scrapbook for last year, it may be entered into a competition. Scrapbooks from the 2011-2012 school year will be judged. Scoring guide is included.
  • Have something planned to share with the group about activities you have at your school. This is a time to boast about your activities, and to give others ideas they might like to try.
  • Quiz Bowl teams will compete for trophies and ribbons on Sunday evening. Rules are included in this mailing. Encourage your students to compete. You may have up to 4 members on a team.
  • Another competition is giving book talks. Rules are included in this mailing. Encourage your students to compete. We will use the Gateway books for next year – the list that was just released.
  • Don’t miss out on the chance to participate in these activities and gain recognition for your group.
  • New this year – a photography competition. Rules are included in the mailing.
  • Official nomination forms for next year’s state offices are enclosed. Please complete and bring those with you to the sponsor’s meeting on Sunday.
  • Registration forms for your state dues are included.
  • Registration forms for the convention are included.
  • Have your student bring ideas for location of next year’s convention. We pick a town that has a university, that has something else educational, that has a hotel with meeting rooms and a pool, and something of a physical type activity for Sunday evening. Those at the convention choose next year’s convention site. Each school gets 2 votes.
