The mission of the American Association of School Librarians is to advocate excellence, facilitate change, and develop leaders in the school library media field. AASL works to ensure that all members of the school library media field collaborate to provide leadership in the total education program; participate as active partners in the teaching/learning process; and connect learners with ideas and information, and prepare students for life-long learning, informed decision-making, a love of reading, and the use of information technologies.
 
The Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) is a professional association of thousands of educators and others whose activities are directed toward improving instruction through technology.
 
The mission of the American Library Association is to provide leadership for the development, promotion and improvement of library and information services and the profession of librarianship in order to enhance learning and ensure access to information for all.
 
The IMLS is the primary source of federal support for the nation's libraries and museums.  The Institute's mission is to create strong libraries and museums that connect people to information and ideas.
 
International Association of School Librarianship (IASL)
The mission of the International Association of School Librarianship (IASL) is to provide an international forum for those people interested in promoting effective school library media programs as viable instruments in the educational process.
The mission of the International Reading Association is to promote reading by continuously advancing the quality of literacy instruction and research worldwide.
 

The Library of Congress is the nation's oldest federal cultural institution and serves as the research arm of Congress. It is also the largest library in the world, with millions of books, recordings, photographs, maps and manuscripts in its collections.

Library and Information Technology Association (LITA)
The Library and Information Technology Association is the leading organization reaching out across all types of libraries to provide education and services for a broad membership.
 

The major functions of the State Library are to provide direct library and information service in support of the executive and legislative branches of Missouri state government; to provide library service to blind and physically handicapped residents of Missouri; and to promote the development and improvement of library services throughout the state.
